חיפוש תמונות חופשיות  ברישיון הגמיש של   Creative Commons יהיה מעתה קל יותר עם השקתו של מנוע החיפוש החדש Cc search   ב- 7 בפברואר 2017 .

גם לפני השקתו של מנוע החיפוש החדש אפשר היה לחפש תמונות חופשיות ברישיון  הגמיש של  Creative Commons בגוגל או פליקר וגם  בפורטל החיפוש של האתר Creative Commons , אלא שכפי שמצוין בפורטל החיפוש,  הפורטל אינו  מנוע חיפוש אלא מהווה שער גישה לשירותי חיפוש של גופים עצמאיים אחרים ואינו אחראי לתוצאות החיפוש  :

CC has no control over the results that are returned. Do not assume that the results displayed in this search portal are under a CC license. You should always verify that the work is actually under a CC license by following the link. Since there is no registration to use a CC license, CC has no way to determine what has and hasn't been placed under the terms of a CC license. If you are in doubt you should contact the copyright holder directly, or try to contact the site where you found the content  "

נראה, שמצב זה השתנה עם השקתו של מנוע החיפוש החדש .  כפי שמצוין באתר התכנים של המנוע כוללים נכון להיום 9,595,804 פריטים שלקוחים ממקורות המידע הבאים :

במנשק החיפוש של המנוע אפשר לסנן את התוצאות מראש על פי מקור ועל פי  אפשרות השימוש מבחינת זכויות היוצרים – למטרה מסחרית או אחרת,  ועל פי כותר, יוצר   ותגיות. המנוע כולל גם מאפיינים חברתיים של שיתוף  והוספת תגיות.

המנוע עדיין בגרסת בטא  וכפי שנכתב בהצהרה על השקתו  בעתיד יהיו שיפורים נוספים

"There is no “front door” to the commons, and the tools people need to curate, share, and remix works aren’t yet available. We want to make the commons more usable, and this is our next step in that direction"
